David Salle was born in 1952. in Norman, Oklahoma. He completed his studies at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, in 1975. Initially he was interested in photographic and video art, but in the 1980s he became known in connection with postmodern New Image Painting with a figurative, quoting manner of painting. David Salle lives and works in New York and Sagaponack (Long Island).
