Biography

Keith Haring (1958-1990)

The American artist Keith Haring was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. Already as a child he drew comics with his father, which influenced his later style. Haring broke off his advertising graphic studies in Pittsburgh in 1976 after only 2 semesters. In 1978, after a solo exhibition at the Pittsburgh Arts and Crafts Center, he moved to New York, where he studied at the School of Visual Arts. Haring, who is known for his colorful, formally reduced works reminiscent of comics and graffiti, took part in Dokumenta 7 in Kassel in 1982. A major solo exhibition took place posthumously at the Albertina in Vienna in 2018.
