Neo Rauch, born 1960 in Leipzig, is a protagonist of the “New Leipzig School”. Neo Rauch’s artistic path is inextricably interwoven with the Leipzig “Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst”. He completed his painting studies there between 1981 and 1986, was a master student of Bernhard Heisig until 1990, worked as an assistant from 1993 to 1998 and held a professorship for painting and graphics from 2005 to 2009, which was immediately followed by an honorary professorship. Neo Rauch’s paintings and drawings are committed to a figurative visual language. His paintings are also magnets for visitors in major solo exhibitions, for example in 2007 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, in 2010 in the double show “Begleiter” (companions), which can be seen at the Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig and simultaneously at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, or in 2011 at the Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden. In addition, Neo Rauch’s works are represented in renowned international museums and collections such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam or the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
