Raimund Girke studied with Georg Mustermann at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf. From 1966 to 1971 he lectured at the school of applied arts in Hanover and then became a professor at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. In 1977 he took part in documenta VI in Kassel. Girkes’ work is characterized by a radical reduction of color to tones of white and grey in strictly geometric or gestural compositions.
