Roger Fritz, born in Mannheim in 1936, initially trained as a wholesale merchant before meeting the photographer Herbert List in the early 1950s and beginning to photograph himself as his assistant. In 1954 and 1956 Fritz won prizes at Photokina, which enabled him to pursue a professional career. He works for various magazines, studies for two years at the UFA junior school for acting and directing and expands his professional activity on the film industry. After his first short film, awarded the Federal Film Prize in 1961, numerous other feature films and TV series followed. Roger Fritz is regarded as one of the most renowned German photographers. He lives and works in Munich.
